Brokers to move to national licence in 2012 – what does this mean?
Back in 2008 the Council of Australian Governments decided to implement a
national licensing system to replace the state-based licensing
requirements for many trades and professions. 2012 should see this
initiative come to fruition for a number of trades and professions. The
change is primarily to make it easier for people to move around
Australia and work, without having to register or qualify at state level
in each state.
Business brokers will be subject to a national licensing system as of
July 2012, grouped under 'property agent occupations'. The major
advantage of this change to us, and to you as a seller, or buyer of a
business, is that we will be able to handle businesses based right
around Australia, not only those based in Queensland.
We will also be very interested to see higher education and compliance standards for Business Brokers who are now regarded as residential real estate agents by most legislation.
